About Housing At MSH

At My Sistah's House, we are committed to providing safe and supportive housing solutions for individuals in Memphis, particularly focusing on the needs of the local TLGBQIA+ community.

Our housing program is intentionally designed to empower residents as they navigate their journey toward stability and independence.

On this page, you'll find information about the types of housing we offer, how you can apply, and what standards we hold residents to in order to create a safe and welcoming community for all.

Support Services

While residents are expected to live independently, My Sistah's House provides resources and referrals for case management and other support services tailored to the unique needs of our community members.

Community Engagement

We believe in building a strong community based on solidarity and a shared pursuit of liberation.

Residents are encouraged to participate in events and activities that foster connections among neighbors, creating a network of support and empowerment.

Transitional Units

Purpose

Transitional units offer temporary housing for residents who are in the process of stabilizing their lives and might not be ready to live independently yet.

We prioritize serving those who may have faced systemic barriers when seeking housing in the past, and are looking for a supportive environment to thrive and grow before moving into permanent and independent housing.

Expectations for Residents

  • Residents are expected to maintain their units and contribute to the upkeep of shared spaces.
  • Open communication is essential; residents should reach out for support when needed.
  • Participation in community-building activities is encouraged to foster a supportive environment.

Permanent Units

Purpose

Permanent units provide long-term housing solutions for residents who are ready for independent living and have demonstrated the ability to maintain a home, whether through MSH's Transitional housing or elsewhere in the community.

We aim to create a welcoming space for those who have historically been underserved.

Expectations for Residents

  • Residents are responsible for paying rent on time and maintaining their homes and outdoor living spaces.
  • We, including our residents, celebrate opportunities to engage with the community and participate in activities that promote a positive living environment.
  • Residents are encouraged to communicate any challenges they face and seek assistance when necessary.
